Before You Film: Why Tropes Beat Titles

A 15-second video has room for one promise. “My fantasy romance” is not a promise. “Enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, one bed, morally gray shadow daddy” IS a promise — and readers already search that phrase on TikTok. Your blurb, metadata, and hooks must list tropes in line 1.

The Trope Blurb Formula (Steal This)
[Hook with trope] + [Stakes in one sentence] + [Tropes listed] + [Reader promise]

Example: “She’s hired to kill him — but he’s the only one who can save her kingdom. Enemies-to-lovers • forced proximity • found family • morally gray hero. If you love Fourth Wing, this will wreck you.”

The 30 Hooks — Copy, Fill [Brackets], Film in 10 Minutes

🔥 10 TROPE REVEALS (Highest Converting)

Text-on-screen, 3-5 tropes listed one per beat, no plot dump. Honest tropes only — listing slow-burn when kiss is page 4 kills trust.

Hook 01 — The List
Text on screen: “[Your Book Title] is: [Trope 1] • [Trope 2] • [Trope 3] • [Bonus trope].” Cover reveal at end.
Example: “House of Ash is: enemies-to-lovers • one bed • shadow daddy • found family • she saves him”
Hook 02 — If You Like X, Read Y
POV: “If you loved [Big comp] and [Second comp], you need [Your Book].”
Example: “If you loved Fourth Wing and The Cruel Prince, you need Song of Blades — same academy’s brutal, but she fails out on purpose.”
Hook 03 — The Trope Stack Ranking
“We all have a type. Mine is [trope] + [trope] + [trope]. This book has all three and it ruined me.”
Hook 04 — The Forbidden Trope
“When tropes I’m a sucker for: [list]. When it’s [your book’s combo]: I’m unwell.”
Hook 05 — The Search Intent
Use TikTok search phrase: “Books with [trope] where [specific twist]”
Example: “Books with forced proximity where she’s his assassin and he knows — but lets her stay anyway?”
Hooks 06-10 — Rotations
06. “POV: You’re looking for [trope] but make it [twist].” / 07. “The trope that carried me: [trope] — here’s the scene.” / 08. “Unpopular opinion: [trope] is better when [your version].” / 09. “Tag a friend who needs [trope] + [trope] today.” / 10. “Books that delivered [trope] so hard I annotated in tears.”

👁️ 8 POV HOOKS (One Character, One Scene)

Hook 11 — The Choice
POV: “POV: He’s [trait] and you’re the only one who saw him [vulnerable moment]. Now you have to [stakes].”
Example: “POV: He’s the villain who burned your village and you’re the only one who saw him pray. Now you have to marry him to stop the war.”
Hook 12 — The Line
Black screen, white text, actor voice: One killer line from your book. No context. Let comments explode.
Example: “‘Kneel,’ he said softly. ‘Or I will.'” — then cover reveal.
Hooks 13-18 — Quick Bank
13. “Tell me you’re [role] without telling me.” / 14. “He’s [grumpy trait] until she’s in danger — then feral.” / 15. “POV: You said you’d never fall for [trope] and then chapter 14 happened.” / 16. “Unreliable narrator check: Who lied?” / 17. “Dual POV: His version vs hers — same kiss.” / 18. “What he said vs what he meant.”

🎨 7 AESTHETIC EDITS (Vibe > Plot)

Hook 19 — The Palette
3-second clips: cover palette → setting objects (dagger, letter, rain) → book in hand. Trending audio. No talking. Text: mood words only.
Hook 20 — The Shelfie
Stack: Your book + 2 comps with similar vibes. Text: “For my [trope] girlies — start here, then [Your Book] will finish you.”
Hooks 21-25
21. First line + rain sound. / 22. Annotation flip — tabbed pages. / 23. Map/world aesthetic if fantasy. / 24. Playlist: 3 songs that ARE your couple. / 25. “What I pictured writing chapter [X] vs what I wrote.”

📖 5 VLOGS (Process Converts Better Than Ads)

Hooks 26-30
26. “Proof copy arrived — unboxing.” / 27. “Chapter I cut and why I’m glad.” / 28. “Reader DM that made me cry.” / 29. “Writing vlog: 1,247 words and still hate this scene.” / 30. “What I Googled writing this book (chaotic search history reveal).”

The 30-Day Calendar (Copy This)

One post/day for 30 days beats 3/day for a week — each video is a test. At ~30 posts, pattern is readable.

Week Focus Daily Posts
1 Trope discovery Hooks 01-05 + 2 POV (6 days) + 1 vlog
2 Emotion POV 11-15 + aesthetics 19-21 + vlog
3 Social proof Tropes 06-10 + POV 16-18 + creator reposts + vlog
4 Binge push Aesthetics 22-25 + vlogs 28-30 + “Book 2 is coming” teaser

Do vs Don’t (Save Yourself Comments)

DO

  • Hook in first 2 seconds — name trope or raise question
  • Link to author hub (all books + email), not single Amazon
  • Physical book in frame — it films better
  • 80% community, 20% promo
DON’T

  • ✗ “Hi guys, today I want to talk about my book” (dead 2 seconds)
  • ✗ Fake tropes — comments will call it out, algo punishes
  • ✗ Polished ad that looks like ad — worst performer
  • ✗ Post 3x then vanish — need 30 tests to see pattern

Blurb Quick Fix (5-Minute)

Before: “A sweeping tale of love and destiny in a divided kingdom.” → No searchable promise.
After: “She’s hired to kill the heir — but he’s the only one who can save her kingdom. Enemies-to-lovers • forced proximity • one bed • morally gray prince • found family. If you devoured Fourth Wing, this will wreck you.” → Now BookTok can find you.
